RE: Azealia Banks & Scissor Sisters video
I’m really troubled to have seen it - a video featuring close-ups on tween girls crotch dropping to the floor - getting so much praise on my dashboard already.
And I’m not criticizing “going there” with edgy humor. I love vulgarity. I love crossing the line.
But there’s a difference between campy humor and the exploitation of children. And yeah, I “get it.” It’s commentary on music video tropes or slutever blather. Sorry, not buying those wares.
Have we forgotten the lessons of Hannah Montana already?
after showing “Sky is the Limit” to my high school students, and discussing whether the director was right or wrong to display these children as adults with overt sexual connotations- this video seems tame in comparison. It is still disturbing in a way because of the lyrics and the dancing, but not as exploitative.

at least in the Scissor Sisters video, the action on the stage and the song seem separated from each other as if seen through a filter.
